As MA and PhD student, Pedro Valiente started to write for several media in Madrid and New York. Pedro worked for four years as staff writer for El Público theater magazine, and as US correspondent writer for El Urogallo literature magazine.

Pedro Valiente received a grant from Castilla-La Mancha regional Government to research at Columbia University in New York towards his PhD dissertation on director/artist Robert Wilson's work. The following year, he was awarded the highest Fulbright grant of the year in Spain to study filmmaking in New York. During both residences, Pedro wrote a series of articles for The Washington Square News magazine at New York University, and other media mostly covering Spanish film and arts in the United States.

Pedro Valiente wrote a firsthand account of the attacks to the Twin Towers in New York. The series of five articles was published on September 11, 12, 13, 14, and one week latter.

While attending MA and PhD programs in Madrid, Pedro Valiente wrote a series of articles including a book series on cinema edited by filmmaker José Luis Garci and journalist Ana Rosa Quintana; also about the German contemporary dramaturg Heiner Müller, and Spanish avant-garde writer Ramón Gómez de la Serna.

As a PhD student, Pedro Valiente was an active writer on arts and culture. Pedro was assigned as correspondent in New York for El Urogallo magazine. He also published collaborations for other magazines (Osmus) and newspapers (Diario 16, La Verdad de Murcia).

For the last issue of El Público (The Public) magazine published by the Ministry of Culture of Spain, Pedro Valiente was assigned to write about the cover's feature: Robert Wilson's premiere at the National Theater (CDN). For four years, Pedro also assigned to wrote about experimental theater, contemporary dance, new authors, and avant-garde artists such as Laurie Anderson, and La Fura dels Baus. 

NEW YORK
Years later in New York, Pedro worked with Robert Wilson and interviewed Phillip Glass, and met Susan Sontag, and Salman Rushdie, among others; and worked at The Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts with Isabella Rossellini, Fiona Shaw, and Dominique Sanda. Pedro also attended an event at The Watermill Center hosted by actor Hugh Jackman and singer/actress Lady Gaga. During ten years residence in New York, Pedro approached figures close to the American avant-garde and the Theater of Images such as director Richard Foreman; scholar/director Richard Schechner who accepted his participation in a theater workshop at New York University; and director Anne Bogart who accepted to supervise his PhD dissertation at Columbia University. Pedro volunteered for the Wooster Group by Elizabeth LeCompte (Kate Valk, Willem DaFoe) at Selwyn Theater; and Trisha Brown Dance Company.

EL PÚBLICO MAGAZINE, MINISTRY OF CULTURE OF SPAIN

Before becoming a filmmaker/artist, Pedro Valiente was arguably the youngest staff writer on performing arts in Spain. After graduating from the university in Madrid, Pedro took his first job ever for El Público (The Public) magazine of the Ministry of Culture of Spain. El Público was considered the main specialized media on performing arts in Spain and Latin America in the 80s and 90s. Pedro worked in El Público for four years where he was ranked n1 in published articles mostly on contemporary theater and dance.
